Steven Spielberg

Steven Allan Spielberg is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he is widely considered one of the most influential personalities in the history of cinema. He rose to prominence with top-grossing blockbusters such as Jaws (1975) and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), which helped define the modern blockbuster era. Spielberg is also an Academy Award-winning director and co-founder of the studio DreamWorks SKG.

Early life

Spielberg was born on December 18, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the eldest child and only son among four children. His mother, Leah Adler (née Posner), was a concert pianist who ran a kosher dairy restaurant. His father, Arnold Spielberg, was an electrical engineer involved in the development of computers.

Career

Spielberg has directed a diverse range of films, including science-fiction fare like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and historical dramas such as Schindler's List and Lincoln. He is recognized for major works including Jaws, E.T., The Color Purple, and Schindler's List. In addition to his directing career, he co-founded the studio DreamWorks SKG.
