Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron is a South African-American actress and producer. Born in Benoni, South Africa, she was raised on a farm by her parents, Gerda and Charles Theron, before moving into the entertainment industry. Theron gained international recognition for her Academy Award-winning performance as Aileen Wuornos in Monster and has since become known for her work in both dramatic and action-oriented films. In addition to her acting career, she has been active in film production through her company, Denver and Delilah Productions, since the early 2000s.

Early life

Charlize Theron was born on August 7, 1975, in Benoni, a city in the greater Johannesburg area of South Africa. She is the only child of Gerda Theron (née Maritz) and Charles Theron. Theron was raised on a farm outside the city and is of Afrikaner descent, with ancestry including Dutch, French Huguenot, and German roots. Her great-great-uncle was the Afrikaner military figure Danie Theron.

Career

Theron won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Aileen Wuornos in the film Monster. She received her third Academy Award nomination for playing a role in the biographical drama Bombshell (2019). Her filmography includes starring roles in Snow White and the Huntsman, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Fate of the Furious, and Atomic Blonde.

Since the early 2000s, Theron has ventured into film production with her company Denver and Delilah Productions. Through this venture, she has produced and starred in films including The Burning Plain (2008), Dark Places (2015), and Long Shot (2019).

Personal life

Theron is a South African-American citizen. She became an American citizen in 2007 while retaining her South African citizenship.
